Holy Week: Preparing for Our Next Place of Ministry
Thursday Day 38: – Servanthood and Sacrifice
Scripture: John 13:14 – “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.”
Devotional: On Maundy Thursday, we pause to remember one of the most powerful and countercultural moments in Jesus’ ministry. The King of kings laid aside His outer garment, knelt on the floor, and washed the dusty feet of His disciples. In doing so, Jesus redefined greatness. He showed us that true leadership in God’s kingdom is not measured by position, recognition, or authority, but by humility, love, and willingness to serve.
Foot washing was the task of the lowest servant, yet Jesus chose that role intentionally. He did not ask His disciples to do anything He Himself was unwilling to do. His example reminds us that servanthood is not optional for believers—it is foundational. Ministry is not built on platforms, titles, or buildings alone, but on hearts that are willing to serve faithfully, even when no one is watching.
As we look ahead with expectation toward the new space God is preparing for us, this truth becomes even more important. A building may provide room to gather, but it is servant-hearted people who create a welcoming, life-giving ministry. Every chair set up, every prayer offered, every greeting at the door, and every act of behind-the-scenes sacrifice matters deeply to God. These moments of service, though sometimes unseen, are sacred. They set the spiritual atmosphere and reflect the heart of Christ to all who enter.
Servanthood often requires sacrifice—of time, comfort, energy, and personal preference. Yet Scripture assures us that no sacrifice made for God’s kingdom is ever wasted. When we serve with humility, we plant seeds that will one day produce a harvest of transformed lives. What we give up now, God uses to bless many later.
Encouragement:
Serving with humility positions your heart for God’s favor. Ministry is not about personal gain, but about loving others and expanding His kingdom through selfless obedience.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to serve as You served. Help me to lay down pride, comfort, and selfish ambition. Let every action I take reflect Your love and bring glory to Your name. Use my service to build Your kingdom and bless others. Amen.
Declaration:
I declare that our ministry is marked by humility, servanthood, and sacrificial love. We follow Christ’s example, and through our service, God’s kingdom is revealed and fully expressed.
